Job Description

Structural Engineer

We are seeking a licensed Structural Engineer to join a public-sector construction services team, providing expert-level code review, design analysis, and field oversight across state-funded building and renovation projects. This hybrid role requires both office-based design review and on-site structural inspections across the state.

Location:

Atlanta, GA – Some statewide travel required (Hybrid In-Office, Remote)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review structural designs and construction documents for code compliance, quality, and constructability
  • Identify errors, omissions, and coordination issues across engineering disciplines
  • Provide redlines, written evaluations, and technical recommendations to project stakeholders
  • Participate in design and construction meetings with architects, engineers, and contractors
  • Conduct on-site reviews of structural components; report findings and follow up with Design Professionals of Record
  • Lead or participate in forensic evaluations, building assessments, and code enforcement oversight
  • Collaborate with internal teams (civil, MEP, architectural) to coordinate full-scope project reviews
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to technical training seminars and professional development programs
  • Support the GSFIC Special Inspections Program and Qualifications-Based Selection Process

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with Structural focus
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in structural design, plan review, construction documentation, and code analysis
  • Active Structural Engineer license in Georgia (or transferable from another state within 1 year of hire)
  • Valid driver’s license; statewide travel required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with plan review in a municipal or state government setting
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering
  • Leadership or mentoring experience in an engineering environment

Core Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of Georgia State Minimum Standard Codes, construction methods, and building systems
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to review complex projects expediently and independently
  • Excellent communication skills—able to explain code issues diplomatically and clearly
  • Skilled in BIM tools such as Revit; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Capable of working with diverse teams and resolving technical conflicts collaboratively

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Full-time, Monday–Friday schedule (occasional evenings/weekends as needed)
  • Professional office setting with field work at project sites
