Travel: Hybrid position located in the DC metro area. Up to 15% of travel is required to fulfill job responsibilities, which may include evenings for relevant meetings and events in D.C. and overnight and weekend travel for the annual meeting, other conferences, events and/or staff
retreats.
POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Manages the ACR’s regulatory efforts and implements advocacy strategies related to policy items within the administration and federal agencies affecting the rheumatology community. Serves as one of the lobbyists for the ACR and represents the organization at meetings of agencies, commissions, specialty societies, coalitions, and legislators where appropriate.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
This position supports the development of the ACR’s policy positions and priorities by leading on the analysis and correspondence of regulatory issues for the Advocacy team.
· Engages with key stakeholders and coalition partners to advance the ACR’s regulatory agenda.
· Monitors and provides guidance related to the ACR’s relationship with regulatory agencies and the organization’s responses to rules, proposed rules, guidance and other proposals and regulations.
· Analyzes proposed regulatory policies impacting the rheumatology community and spearheads appropriate responses. This includes, but is not limited to:
o The Medicare Physician Fee Schedule,
o the Quality Payment Program,
o leveraging qualified clinical data registries (QCDRs) such as the ACR’s RISE registry; and
o implementation of ACR-developed quality measures for rheumatology.
· Prepares effective advocacy materials including background papers and issue briefs for regulatory policy initiatives.
· Develops communications of regulatory developments and advocacy activities for ACR membership, leadership, and grassroots networks.
· Engages with coalitions and develop partnerships with physician societies and patient advocacy groups in support of shared regulatory objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS
· BA/ BS plus five (5) years’ experience in a related field, or MS/MA/MBA/JD plus three (3) years’ experience in a related field, or more than eight (8) years’ experience with no post-secondary degree.
· Experience with regulatory processes, as well as analysis and response to regulations and proposed regulations, especially in the health policy arena; understanding of physician payment and healthcare quality.
· Outstanding writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make compelling presentations and effectively distill highly complex policies.
· Excellent interpersonal skills.
· Ability to organize and manage several projects simultaneously and with minimal supervision: ability to exercise judgment in prioritizing responsibilities
· Healthcare association experience preferred.
· Professional proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word is required. Web browsing proficiency is also required.
Familiarity with virtual meeting software applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Tea
