Job Description

About Kern Collective:

At Kern Collective, we believe that design is better together. We’re a collaborative studio where creativity meets precision, and our work is grounded in a commitment to service, positivity, and problem-solving. From concept to print, we bring ideas to life with care, attention to detail, and an eye for excellence. Now, we’re looking for a Print Production Designer to join our team and help us ensure every printed piece is flawless, beautiful, and on-brand.

At this time, we are looking with a designer that has a flexible schedule, most of our jobs require a 24 hour turn around from our client. A typical work week will consist of approximately 10–15 hours per week, with the potential for this to evolve into a full-time position as our business continues to grow.

This opportunity is ideal for a freelance production designer seeking consistent part-time work, with the potential to expand as we scale.

What You’ll Do:

As a Print Production Designer at Kern Collective, you’ll be the essential link between our creative ideas and their perfect physical form. You’ll:

  • Prepare print-ready files (InDesign) with meticulous attention to layout, typography, color management, and production specs.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, project managers, and print vendors to ensure deliverables are produced to the highest quality.
  • Review proofs, prepress files, and troubleshoot production issues with a calm, solution-oriented approach.
  • Stay current on the latest in print production technology, paper stocks, inks, and finishing techniques.
  • Help refine and maintain templates, style guides, and production processes to keep our workflow smooth and efficient.
  • Juggle multiple projects with confidence, keeping timelines and details on track.

What You Bring:

  • 2+ years of experience in print production, prepress, or graphic design (with a strong print focus).
  • Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and prepress best practices.
  • A solid understanding of print processes (offset, digital, large-format), color separations, bleeds, and file formats.
  • Laser-sharp attention to detail and a knack for catching errors before they become problems.
  • A collaborative spirit and excellent communication skills—you love being part of a team.
  • The ability to stay cool under tight deadlines and bring creative problem-solving to the table.

Why You’ll Love Working With Us:

  • Be part of a positive, collaborative team that truly cares about the work and each other.
  • Work on exciting, high-quality projects for clients who value creativity and precision.
  • A culture that values positivity, problem-solving, and premium service—because we know design is better together.
