General Description:

The Traffic Engineer Team Lead will play a crucial role in establishing and expanding the traffic/transportation services, focusing on traffic studies and design projects. This position will involve working closely with private developers and municipalities to ensure that local transportation facilities effectively integrate with regional County and State highway systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive traffic studies and analyses to assess current conditions, identify issues, and propose solutions for improving traffic flow and safety
  • Design traffic control measures, including traffic signals, signs, markings, traffic management plans, and road geometrics
  • Conduct traffic impact studies to assess the effects of proposed developments on traffic flow and safety
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, planners, and other engineers to integrate transportation solutions into overall project designs
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications for transportation projects in compliance with relevant regulations and standards
  • Perform traffic simulations and modeling to evaluate the performance of transportation systems under various conditions
  • Provide expertise and guidance on traffic engineering principles, standards, and best practices
  • Conduct site visits and field inspections to assess existing conditions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and clients to obtain necessary approvals and permits for transportation projects
  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and regulatory changes related to traffic engineering
  • Evaluate, secure, and administer State and Federal Transportation funding opportunities related to local municipal projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in traffic management software and data collection
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret traffic data and simulations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with team members, clients, and stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality work on schedule
  • Knowledge of transportation engineering principles, traffic regulations, and industry standards

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering is required
  • 5 or more years of traffic engineering experience, with a focus on traffic studies, is required

License or Certification Requirements:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License for the State of Wisconsin is preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a desk and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Some responsibilities may involve field work
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
