Job Description

Job Title: Drafter (2D/3D CAD) – Commercial HVAC

Department: Engineering

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Status: Full-Time

Position Overview

As a Drafter at Custom Mechanical Equipment, you play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of technical drawings and job documentation for our multizone HVAC units and custom-built products. Your work directly impacts the efficiency of our production team and the success of our projects.

Primary Responsibilities & Performance Metrics

1. Drafting & Design

  • Produce 100% accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for HVAC systems and components.
  • Complete initial project drawings within a timely manner of receiving project specifications.
  • Ensure all drawings are reviewed and approved within 48 hours of completion.

2. Job Book Creation & Management

  • Assemble and distribute job books with 100% accuracy, ensuring all required documents are included.
  • Implement a revision tracking system to ensure that the shop always works with the latest version.
  • Ensure all revisions are updated the same day as receiving changes.

3. Collaboration & Communication

  • Work with engineers, project managers, and shop staff to clarify design details, with all resolution of issues before production begins.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical records of drawings and job books, ensuring zero missing or outdated documents.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  1. Drawing Accuracy: Less than 5% of drawings require major revisions after initial submission.
  2. Job Book Timeliness: 100% of job books are prepared and updated before the production deadline.
  3. Revision Turnaround Time: New revisions are implemented the same day as customer approval.
  4. Collaboration Effectiveness: All feedback from the shop is resolved proactively.

Professional Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Attend training sessions or refresher courses in drafting software at least once every other year.
  • Identify and propose at least 1 process improvement per quarter to enhance drafting efficiency and accuracy.

Flexibility Requirement:

Due to the dynamic nature of our production process, all employees are expected to be flexible in their work assignments. If there is a temporary shortage of work in your primary department or craft, you may be assigned to assist in other departments or perform tasks outside your usual scope of work. Refusal to accept such assignments may result in being sent home without pay for that period. This ensures continuous workflow and supports overall company productivity.
