Founded in 1982, Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care is an independent, nonprofit healthcare provider licensed in 11 counties in northwest Illinois. They provide exceptional serious illness care, hospice care and grief support for adults and children. While Lightways primarily provides care in the home, nursing facilities and assisted living facilities, it also owns a 24-bed inpatient facility located at its corporate campus in Joliet.

Lightways employs 250 staff and runs a hospice ADC of more than 450 patients and a palliative care census of 500. The organization enjoys an outstanding reputation for its quality care and has served over 35,000 patients since its inception. Lightways offers unwavering guidance and support to its patients and families. They know how important time is, and their devoted team of highly skilled healthcare professionals takes time to listen to their patients’ needs and develop the best plan of care.

The Role -

Lightways is seeking an experienced Director to lead and support its Pediatric and Adult Serious Illness programs and Pediatric Hospice care. The Director will be responsible for managing both programs, including oversight of quality of care, revenue, productivity, nurse practitioners, social workers, referral relationships, program development, and patient satisfaction.

As Director, you will play a crucial role in promoting Lightways’ culture, mission and values that emphasize Quality Patient Care , Say Yes, Compassion, Accountability, and Collaboration among all team members. Your focus will be on program development, defining and implementing best practice standards for palliative and pediatric care, and mentoring staff.

You will collaborate directly with the COO and other members of the Executive Management Team to develop strategic analyses for business opportunities and growth. Additionally, you will assess existing operational systems for efficiencies and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications -

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other clinical discipline required.
  • Master of nursing, healthcare administration or related field required.
  • Minimum of five years’ clinical leadership experience in palliative care and/or pediatric hospice.
  • Demonstrated results in business planning and growth, operating performance, quality and process improvement, and leading teams.
  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
