Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM):

Reports to: Executive Director

Status: Full-Time, Exempt, Hybrid (some travel, evenings and weekends required)

Position Support: Part Time Development Database Assistant, fractional support for: events, social media and video production.

Salary Range: $70,000 to $75,000

Position Summary

The Development Manager is a key member of PCM’s external affairs and advancement team, responsible for executing a dynamic, mission-aligned contributed income strategy that fuels organizational growth.

This role's primary focus is on moves management , major gift stewardship , lapsed donor re-engagement , wealth screening and donor research , special fundraising and friendraising events , and coordinating marketing efforts as they relate to contributions .

The Development Manager partners with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and the Leadership Team to build strong relationships, deepen donor loyalty, expand PCM’s donor base, and secure philanthropic support to sustain and grow PCM’s impact in the community.

Essential Functions
Donor Cultivation, Moves Management, and Major Gifts

Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 50-100 major gift donors and prospects ($1,000+ annually) and steward relationships through personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

Implement a disciplined moves management system to move prospects along the donor continuum, leveraging data, segmentation, and donor research (including wealth screening).

Re-engage lapsed donors and develop specific strategies to rebuild and renew relationships.

Develop and manage individualized stewardship plans for leadership-level donors ensuring they are thanked, informed, and engaged.

Prepare personalized proposals, impact reports, and donor communications.

Fundraising Events and Special Initiatives
  • Plan and execute small-scale fundraising and "friend-raising" events designed to deepen engagement with key donors and prospective supporters.
  • Support execution of larger signature events alongside staff, fractional contractors, and volunteer committees to maximize fundraising and donor cultivation outcomes.
  • Assist in donor recognition efforts at events, including special invitations, acknowledgments, and exclusive experiences.
Marketing Coordination for Contributions
  • Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications fractional team to ensure donor-related content (appeals, stewardship communications, newsletters, social media) is coordinated, timely, and mission-focused.
  • Partner to align messaging for annual campaigns, event promotions, and donor stewardship storytelling.
Data Management and Reporting
  • Support your direct reports to utilize CRM software to track donor interactions, wealth screening results, touchpoints, and moves management activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all donor engagement and pipeline activity.
  • Provide regular donor pipeline, moves management, and fundraising performance reports to Executive Leadership.

Partnership and Team Collaboration
  • At Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM), the Development Manager and Executive Director work in close, mission-centered partnership to drive contributed revenue, steward relationships, and expand the community’s investment in our students' success.
  • Actively participate in Development Committee meetings, supporting fractional staff, volunteer leadership with materials and data.
  • Collaborate closely with program, finance, and marketing staff to align fundraising activities with PCM’s mission delivery and strategic plan.

Represent PCM externally at community events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build awareness and deepen relationships.

Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of fundraising experience, with emphasis on major gifts cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship .
  • Demonstrated success managing a donor pipeline using moves management and wealth screening tools.
  • Experience planning small donor-centric events.
  • Strong project management skills, highly organized, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in donor databases/CRMs (Salesforce, Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, or similar).
  • High emotional intelligence, integrity, discretion, and a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset.

Preferred:
  • Commitment to PCM’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Understanding of or direct experience with the Arizona philanthropic landscape.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit arts organizations and/or creative youth development.
