Job Summary

The Crisis Counselor position for St. Joseph’s Health Psychiatric Emergency Services/Screening Center provides services to individuals in psychiatric crisis. Services include but are not limited to: crisis intervention; clinical assessments; treatment planning; psychoeducation; referral and advocacy. The position also involves assessment of individuals in crisis in the community mobile outreach and hospital setting. The population of individuals we serve come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Clinical presentation, language spoken, communication needs, and age of populations served are varied as well.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in behavioral health sciences and one year of work experience post masters is preferred; or Bachelor’s Degree in behavioral health sciences with 3 years of experience
• Must be able to communicate effectively and demonstrate clear and organized written skills
• Must possess strong independent clinical skills and familiarity with various substance use disorders
• Knowledge of New Jersey Screening Law and its application
• Knowledge of DSM-V ( Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) and the ability to utilize it for diagnostic purposes in an emergency setting
• Valid driver’s license with no pending violations required
