Position Summary

The Commercial Concrete Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable cost estimates for commercial concrete projects. This role requires a strong understanding of concrete construction means and methods, quantities, labor productivity, materials, equipment, and market conditions.

The Estimator works closely with operations to ensure bids are realistic, executable, and aligned with company capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Estimating & Bidding

• Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents for commercial concrete scopes
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for:
• Footings, foundations, slabs-on-grade
• Elevated decks, walls, columns
• Sidewalks, curb & gutter, site concrete
• Develop accurate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and supplier quotes
• Prepare bid proposals, clarifications, and inclusions/exclusions

Preconstruction & Handoff

• Participate in pre-bid meetings and job walks
• Coordinate with project management and field leadership to ensure constructability
• Support smooth handoff from estimating to operations after award
• Assist with value engineering and alternate pricing when requested

Cost Control & Analysis

• Maintain and update cost databases, labor rates, and production assumptions
• Review historical job cost data to improve estimate accuracy
• Identify risk areas and communicate assumptions clearly

Client & GC Interaction

• Communicate with general contractors regarding scope, questions, and clarifications
• Build relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and GC estimating teams
• Support negotiations as needed

Qualifications & Experience

Required

• 3–10+ years of experience estimating commercial concrete projects
• Strong understanding of concrete construction methods and sequencing
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Proficiency with estimating software and takeoff tools
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Preferred

• Experience with foundations, structural concrete, and site concrete
• Familiarity with local market pricing and suppliers
• Experience working for a self-perform concrete contractor

Software & Tools

• Estimating / takeoff software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, OST, ProEst, or similar)
• Excel and standard office software
• Experience with job cost or ERP systems a plus
