Civil / Structural Engineer – Transmission & Substation (EPC) (PE license needed)

Work Model: Remote or Hybrid

Locations Supported: Midwest & Mountain West

Travel: Up to 25%

About the Role

A leading EPC contractor supporting Transmission Line and Substation infrastructure projects is seeking an experienced Civil / Structural Engineer to support preconstruction, estimating, and project execution teams. This role will manage the Engineer of Record (EOR) process, review engineering deliverables, and provide technical oversight across multiple utility-scale projects.

This position offers a remote or hybrid work option with occasional travel to project sites and regional offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support preconstruction, estimating, and project execution teams by managing the Engineer of Record (EOR) for EPC transmission and substation projects.
  • Review and approve all engineering submittals from the EOR.
  • Review and interpret civil and structural construction plans, engineering reports, design-basis documents, stormwater calculations, and best management practices.
  • Perform and review designs for transmission line and substation foundations and structural steel components.
  • Review and, when required, prepare plans, calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, geotechnical data, and topographical surveys to support project design and planning.
  • Manage third-party professional service providers including:
  • Aerial & ALTA surveys
  • Geotechnical investigations
  • Civil and structural design firms
  • Environmental consultants
  • Hydrology and permitting teams
  • Support field services including soil testing and land surveying.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Executives and Project Managers to align engineering, environmental permitting, geotechnical, and construction services.
  • Provide permitting support and compliance coordination, communicating directly with authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Utilize Civil 3D, MFAD, and related engineering software to support project teams.
  • Provide engineering input for proposals and cost estimates.
  • Optimize designs to drive constructability and cost savings.
  • Maintain compliance with all professional, ethical, and business conduct standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of civil/structural design experience supporting substations and/or transmission lines.
  • Minimum 2 years of field experience preferred.
  • Experience in substation structural design, including:
  • Structural steel
  • Concrete structures
  • Foundations & geotechnical engineering
  • Experience reviewing:
  • Substation structures
  • Rigid bus systems
  • Oil spill containment systems
  • Retaining walls
  • Control buildings & fire walls
  • Site layouts, grading, stormwater management, and erosion control
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering preferred
  • Prior EPC project experience strongly preferred
